I visited several cleaning companies and hotels in Granada and Málaga and realized that floor cleaning techniques are stuck in the 1930s, even though we are now in the year 2025. Although plastic buckets and mop handles appear modern, the cleaning technique itself remains anchored in the past.
The traditional method of floor cleaning is slow and ineffective:
the mop is dipped multiple times into dirty water, then discarded, the bucket is refilled with clean water, and detergent is added. However, the mops are never washed, turning them into breeding grounds for bacteria. This not only affects the quality of cleaning but also facilitates the spread of pathogens, making floor cleaning more of a problem than a solution. Additionally, the mops are of poor quality—their fibers detach with use, and over time, the mop deteriorates so much that it completely loses its cleaning effectiveness. Instead of sanitizing floors, a dirty mop only spreads dirt and bacteria even further.
